NYOIL, Jesse Jackson, Al Sharpton and Others Come Together to Speak on the State of the Black World

NYOIL to speak at the State of the Black World Conference in New Orleans, November 19 – 23.

New York, NY -- NYOIL, known for his politically controversial lyrics and outspoken views on Hip Hop, the Black Community and Black culture as a whole, has been invited to speak alongside Rev. Al Sharpton, Rev. Jesse Jackson, as well as various politicians and other leaders in the Black Community at the upcoming State of the Black World Conference in New Orleans, November 19 – 23, 2008.

The conference, anchored by the New York-based Institute of the Black World 21st Century (IBW), is centered on the theme Return to the Source, Restoring Family, Rebuilding Community, Renewing the Struggle. This will be the first major gathering in Black America after this historic presidential election. As a result, the conference is organized as a kind of post-election political convention where a policy agenda for revitalizing Black communities in the U.S., the Caribbean and Africa will be developed to present to the new Administration.

Other confirmed participants include actor and humanitarian Danny Glover; syndicated talk show host Bev Smith; Dr. Julianne Malveaux, President of Bennett College; Marc Morial, President/CEO, National Urban League; Dr. Elsie Scott, President/CEO, Congressional Black Caucus Foundation; Atty. Faya Rose Sanders, Founder of the Voting Rights Museum in Selma, Alabama; Susan Taylor, former Editorial Director, Essence Magazine; Dr. Maulana Karenga, and Creator of Kwanzaa and Professor of Africana Studies and Chairman of Black Studies at California State University at Long Beach.

NYOIL has been a strong voice for the Black Community since the release of his debut single “Y’all Should All Get Lynched” in October 2006. Since then, he has become a Social/Urban/Political pundit for BBC World Service on various programs including The Weekend World Today and World Have Your Say along with specials on Freedom of Speech for the BBC's 75th Anniversary broadcast. In March 2007, NYOIL co-hosted a live broadcast of World Have Your Say in Harlem, which garnered the BBC a Sony Radio Academy Awards Gold medal for Listener Participation. Recently NYOIL was invited by Rev. Al Sharpton’s National Action Netork to speak on a panel in a symposium to discuss the Hip Hop/Youth Divide.

NYOIL is currently working on the follow up to his debut CD HoodTREASON released on Petroleum Empire Music/Babygrande Records earlier this year.
