The Slakadeliqs Receive Polaris Music Prize Long List Nomination; Sign to Do Right Music for Physical Album Release
The Other Side of Tomorrow by The Slakadeliqs named to Polaris Music Prize long list. Vinyl/CD to be released on Do Right Music later this year
Toronto, ON -- On the heels of receiving a prestigious Polaris Music Prize long list nomination for the for their highly acclaimed debut album, The Other Side of Tomorrow, The Slakadeliqs have announced a deal with Do Right Music. The deal will bring a physical release (in both CD and vinyl format) of The Other Side of Tomorrow to Japan on August 2, 2012 through P-Vine Records and to Canada on September 18, 2012 through Do Right Music, distributed by Outside Music.
Originally released independently in January as a digital download, The Other Side of Tomorrow received over 100,000 total plays, had blogs, music websites and Twitter exploding with excitement, and became the #1 selling album on Bandcamp… all in less than 24 hours. Reviews of The Other Side of Tomorrow have been outstanding:
“…here is an honest-to-God Album. A thoughtful, thematically consistent, largely acoustic, and musically rich album.” “…Almost every track is a triumph of purebred songwriting. It isn’t exaggeration that I invoke Simon and Garfunkel. This is the real thing.” “…Indeed, the closest comparison I can draw is with some of Lenny Kravitz’ work from the 90′s. But that’s not quite right because this is better than anything Lenny Kravitz ever did, by far.”
- TorontoArm
“Among Toronto's most exciting musical voices, this DJ, producer, singer, songwriter, arranger, you-name-it has made one of this year's best records.” “…The Other Side of Tomorrow is his best record yet.” “…It sounds great, but it feels even better.”
- Stuart Henderson, Popmatters
“On Other Side of Tomorrow, the ‘deliqs create a wall of sound that embraces elements of folk, pop, psychedelia, reggae and soul, making it infectious listening. It’s already found a spot on my top 10 discs of this year.”
- Errol Nazareth, Toronto Sun
“On par with Slakah (the Beatchild)'s previous offerings, Soul Movement Vol. 1 and Something Forever, The Other Side of Tomorrow is a fresh, funky and feel-good release that markedly raises the bar for Canadian soul music in 2012.”
- Matt Bauer, Exclaim!
