Benny-D, Busta Rhymes, Andre 3000 and now Snoop Dogg... Could this be the new trend in Hip Hop?

A year after Benny-D gets his first kilt; Snoop Dogg wears one on the MTV Europe Awards

Atlanta, GA -- Benny-D, Akon’s DJ and Music Director and “The World’s Most Entertaining DJ” is known worldwide for his Mohawk and for wearing a kilt on stage during every performance. Now it seems that the man Akon calls “Mr. Mohawk” has inspired a trend with Andre 3000 wearing a kilt in the “International Players Anthem” video with UGK and Snoop Dogg rocking the traditional Scottish and Celtic garment at the recent MTV Europe Awards.

When asked how he feels about possibly inspiring both Snoop and Andre 3000’s choice in wardrobe Benny-D stated, “I definitely take it as a compliment! It’s cool that people are being inspired by other cultures. Sometimes we get too in-tuned with our own culture to see what is going on in the rest of the world. The Scottish and Irish traditions are serious. Each family has their own pattern and every tartan and fabric represents something different. Actually, Busta, before all of us, wore a kilt in his video for “Gimme Some 'Mo” some years back. I just spoke to him last night and he was telling me he rocked one in that video. But where they might rock it once for a video or a performance, I rock it as a uniform to perform in every time I’m on stage.”

In a recent interview with XPOZ Magazine, Benny-D spoke about how he first started wearing the kilt. “I wanted to do something that would give people a way to identify with me from the moment I walked on stage. I got my first kilt made in Paris in November 2006, but waited to wear it because I wanted the perfect time to put it on. Since I live in Atlanta, I decided to wear it there for the first time during the Gwen Stefani tour on May 11, 2007... the crowd went crazy! Now I can’t do a show without wearing the kilt!”

Recently Benny-D opened “Tropical Styles” shoe store on St. Thomas, VI with his best friend Mario Caines and their childhood friend Bert. The store carries all brands of sneakers as well as a specialty line of Air Force 1’s customized with the Virgin Islands Flag. They also customize Air Jordans. With plans to branch out to other islands and the US within the next few years, Benny-D is certain to be at the forefront of fashion trends for many years to come.

Akon’s DJ and Music Director Thanks Canada at Conclusion of Tour with Rihanna

DJ Benny-D issues statement to summarize his experiences on cross-Canada tour

Halifax, NS -- Upon the conclusion of their 12 city Canadian Tour, Akon’s DJ and music director Benny-D, quickly becoming known as The World’s Most Entertaining DJ, has issued the following statement:

“Our Akon/Rihanna Tour started on Sept. 15th in Vancouver and ended in Halifax on the 30th, starting off on a great note and ending with a bang! We had a sold out crowd on the first night and out of the 11 or 12 shows done in a two-week span, only two shows were not sold out.

The people of Canada were really receptive towards us coming back to their country after bringing our show here for the first time with Gwen Stefani back in May of this year. A lot of people who were at those shows came back to the Akon/Rihanna shows… and it was a blast!

This time around I came with new moves that I learned from Gwen's B-Boys including the Freeze where I stand on my head with my legs and feet in a straight horizontal position. I also got some new Kilts that I bought from London and some that were tailor made by my stylist 'Madi Styles'. She keeps me fresh!

I had five after-parties to DJ after some of the concerts and people really came out to support me. Canada is now one of my favorite countries to be in! Not just because my favorite rapper, Kardinal Offishall is from Toronto, and not just because I have some very good friends in different cities, but because the people are great and they really treated me like a person. I admire the country for that! I can't wait to come back again with new moves, new Kilts, my Mohawk fresh and my performance in tact. Canada can always have a piece of Benny-D anytime they desire!”

While on tour, Benny-D did interviews with several Canadian based media outlets including Swagg News, Hiphopcanada.com, HHNLive.com, and gave SWBN.tv and their subsidiary S.P.I.T. DVD exclusive behind the scenes access to the show in Toronto.

Later this month, Benny-D will be visiting Brazil for the first time on a 6-date/5-city tour. Benny-D’s complete tour schedule can be found at www.myspace.com/supervillainbeats

The World’s Most Entertaining DJ is Turning Heads as well as Tables

The Title of “Akon’s DJ and Music Director” doesn’t do justice to an overall Entertainer like Benny-D

Atlanta, GA -- Virgin Islands native Benny Demus has become known to the world as DJ Benny D, Akon’s official DJ and music director, famous for his Mohawk and the kilt he wears on stage and infamous for dancing with Tara Reid during a performance at this year’s Sundance Film festival. His vibrant personality and incomparable energy level on stage has earned him the designation of “The World’s Most Entertaining DJ”… but for Benny-D that title barely scratches the surface of his talents.

Benny-D has produced tracks for Akon on 2 albums and for several other artists with major label deals including Kardinal Offishall, Rock City, Tabi Bonney, Ray Lavender, Bobby Creekwater and Sunny Valentine.

A savvy businessman as well as a talented artist, Benny-D was instrumental in relaunching his former group 2EKWHIP under their new name “Rock City”, a name that pays homage to their home of St. Thomas, and was responsible for landing them a deal with Konvict Muzik, the record label owned and founded by Akon.

Benny-D is passionate about helping others and has devoted his efforts to Akon’s foundation Konfidence, which helps to build and rebuild schools and hospitals throughout Africa. Later in the week, Benny D will be announcing his support for a foundation towards educational initiatives.

Benny-D has toured the world both on his own and as Akon’s DJ and music director, entertaining crowds as large as 200,000 in countries such as Morocco, Amsterdam, Belgium, The Ivory Coast and Malta. Audiences always anticipate an energetic and zealous show from Benny D as he warms up the crowd for Akon’s performance. In recent shows he has sprayed fire on stage, jumped off speaker boxes, climbed up stage rafters, and jumped into crowds. Sunday night at a post VMA’s concert in Las Vegas with Akon, Rhianna, T-Pain and Sean Kingston Benny-D debuted his new black and white kilt and gold shoes while break dancing on stage.

Upcoming tour dates for Benny-D with Akon include a cross Canada tour with Rhianna from September 15 – 30th, MTV Russia Awards on October 4th, BET Hip Hop Awards on October 12th, MTV European Music Awards in Germany on November 1st, and Latin Grammy’s in Las Vegas on November 8th.
